Volunteering Their Time

Several Des Moines area alumni joined College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and students at a community outreach event at the Meadows Mobile Home Community in early December. Pet owners in the community live at or below the poverty level and have a difficult time providing care for their pets. Patients received exams, vaccines, microchips and care for ear or skin infections. The College of Veterinary Medicine contingent helped treat 68 pets. Those volunteering for the event were, front row from the left, Dr. Paige Baltzell (DVM 2014); Dr. Rachel Spah (DVM 2008); and Dr. Kate Trevino (DVM 2017). Back row, Gianna Vella, VM3; Dr. Andrew Ackerman, LVMC intern; Alycia Summers, VM1; Dr. Joyce Carnevale, clinical assistant professor; and Dr. Renee Dewell, veterinary specialist with the Center for Food Security and Public Health.
