Land-Grant Heritage
The farm land has been in the family since the Great Depression, but the Maxwell family of Moville, Iowa, had no idea the role the land played in Iowa State’s history. Turns out the land is part of the university’s land-grant legacy, a story recently featured in ISU Alumni Association’s VISIONS magazine. The farm is owned by Earl “Doc” (DVM ’49) and Helen Logan Maxwell. Son Stee Maxwell is also a 1978 DVM graduate. Doc Maxwell has a long-established veterinary practice in Moville.
