First Recipient

Dr. Lauren Hughes ('16)
Lauren Hughes is the inaugural recipient of The Foundation for the Horse Research Fellow for her investigation of the genetics of pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) in horses. The scholarship is awarded to a doctoral or residency student who has made significant progress in the field of equine health care research. Hughes is a PhD candidate at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine after completing a large animal residency at University of Minnesota. "My work will allow for development of genetic testing or additional screening methods to prevent horses from the devastating consequences that can accompany PPID," she said.
