Pioneering Research

For those who knew him, the Pioneer Award from the Iowa Turkey Federation is a fitting tribute to Dr. Melvin Hofstad (DVM ’40). The long-time College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member was recently honored for his significant contributions to the Iowa turkey industry. Hofstad, who died in 1986, retired from Iowa State as a Distinguished Professor and was internationally known for poultry disease research including contributions to the understanding of pathogenesis of infectious bronchitis.
