Mentorship Matters

On a balmy July afternoon, Stuart Veterinary Clinic is bustling with activity. "Bring me the next one," Shawn Nicholson calls out as he awaits the next ewe to be pregnancy checked. Observing is Vivian Flores, a sophomore animal science major at Iowa State University. Nicholson shows Flores what to look for on the ultrasound monitor. For Nicholson, the opportunity to mentor Flores is a way to pay it forward - much like the support he received coming out of veterinary school. "A lot of veterinarians don't get that mentorship coming out of school," Nicholson said.
