The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) has presented awards to faculty and staff in the College of Veterinary Medicine including:
The SAVMA Outstanding Service to the Student Body Award was presented to Mindy Schminke in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs. Schminke provides academic support maintaining all academic records of veterinary students, student registration procedures and processes, scheduling classes, degree audits while also coordinated the College’s Graduation Ceremonies.
The Basic Sciences Teaching Award was presented to Dr. Gayle Brown, a senior lecturer in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Brown teaches classes that include microbiology, immunology and emerging and exotic diseases. In her classes, Brown uses evidence-based teaching approaches to help students invest in basic science education and love learning, even when tackling challenging courses.
The Clinical Sciences Teaching Award recipient is Dr. Jamie Kopper, assistant professor in veterinary clinical sciences. In her didactic lectures, Kopper provides a multifaceted educational experience to reach the different learning styles by providing traditional lectures that are enhanced by practice quizzes, case examples, discussion boards and review sessions. thus reaching the broadest pool of students.
