Dr. Jessica Ward, the Phyllis M. Clark Endowed Professor and assistant dean for extramural student programs in the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named the recipient of the 2024 William O. Reece Advising Award.

The Reece Award is given annually to a College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member who embodies the role of being a faculty mentor. One student commented, “Dr. Ward is always available and willing to talk about anything, help with anything, and answer any questions students have.”

An Iowa State faculty member since 2015, Ward is a board-certified veterinary cardiologist. She is a graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a cardiology residency at the same institution.

Since arriving at Iowa State, Ward has received several awards for her teaching and service including the College of Veterinary Medicine Award for Early Achievement in Teaching, the SAVMA Award for Teaching Excellence in Clinical Sciences, the Iowa State University Award for Early Achievement in Teaching, the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award, and the College of Veterinary Medicine International Service Award.

In 2023, Ward was the recipient of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine’s William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service.
