Welcome to the College of Veterinary Medicine
As a three-time graduate of Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, it is my sincere honor to serve as the interim dean of the nation’s oldest college of veterinary medicine. The ISU CVM has a long, rich history. We should and do take great pride in that heritage. We are also very proud of the remarkable advances our college has made in teaching professional and graduate students, conducting research that impacts animal and human health, providing leading-edge clinical services through our hospital and diagnostic lab, and keeping stakeholders informed through our highly effective extension and outreach programs.
We have ambitious goals for the college in the coming years. However, I believe it is no more ambitious than it was in 1879 when the college’s first dean, Dr. Millikan Stalker, set about creating the nation’s first public veterinary college. The obstacles facing Dean Stalker and his faculty must have seemed unattainable at times but they and those that followed have created one of the greatest veterinary colleges the world has known.
That dedication continues to this day as we are absolutely committed to our stated mission of enhancement of the health and well-being of animals and human beings through excellence in education, research, professional practice and committed service to the State of Iowa, the nation and the world.
