Not Giving Up
Dr. Amanda Jondle (’17)
When Harper was brought into Amanda Jondle’s Tennessee veterinary clinic last year, she had lost her foot. Her bone was sticking out and was covered in maggots and infections. But Jondle didn’t give up. “She was very sick, very weak, in critical condition,” Jondle said. Amputation and a prosthetic leg was the best care for Harper, but when the owner declined, they surrendered the one-year-old German shepherd to Jondle to foster. Soon the Iowa State graduate was researching dog prosthetic companies but found the cost too expensive. That’s when she turned to a human prosthetic company and now Harper has been fitted with a prosthetic.
