One Health Lecture: A Career at the Interface of Animals, People, and the Environment: Lessons in One Health

Speaker: Michael Lairmore, DVM, PhD

Dr. Lairmore is the immediate past dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California (Davis). During his tenure as dean, he helped create new programs to expand clinical trials, global and one health programs, and innovation and entrepreneurship. He is board certified in veterinary anatomic pathology, virology, and immunology. He is one of the few veterinarians elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine. He is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. He served in numerous national leadership positions including President of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges and the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and served as a member of the National Institutes of Health Council of Councils. His research has provided significant breakthroughs in the biology of human retroviruses and the understanding of viral-associated carcinogenesis. Currently, he consults, lectures and volunteers with various educational and professional organizations.


The One Health Lecture Series was established in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in honor of Dr. Roger Mahr, DVM Class of 1971
