CVM International Programs organizes short-term study abroad programs, as well as internship and clinical rotation opportunities at partner veterinary universities. It is important to know that you can create your own experiences.
All international study, research, or internship travel must be registered with the university. Registered travelers will be covered by the ISU International Health and Liability Insurance. Review the policy document to learn about how to register based on the nature of your travel. Contact cvmip@iastate.edu if you are unsure whether you need to register or where to register. A collection of previous students' program evaluations can be found here.
Short-term Group Programs
- These are organized by the college. They are usually offered throughout the summer, and last for 2-3 weeks. You will earn ISU credits, travel in a group, go on excursions, learn from local veterinarian instructors, and gain hands-on experience.
Clinical Rotations and Internships
- The college has seven active exchange partner universities in Central & South America, Asia, and Europe. Each year, these partners offer a range of clinical rotation opportunities for senior students, as well as internship opportunities for 2nd and 3rd-year students.
- You can also pursue independent internships. Historic records of where students went in the past for preceptorships are available upon request (cvmip@iastate.edu).
Other Opportunities
- You can create your own international experiences. We will help connect you with faculty members who have international connections, and external organizations that offer international programs. To receive credit for the experience, a veterinarian must be on-site for the program. And you must obtain approval from an ISU teaching faculty.
