Xiang-Jin (“XJ”) Meng is a University Distinguished Professor at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, Director of Virginia Tech Center for Emerging Zoonotic and Arthropod-borne Pathogens (CeZAP)and Interim Executive Director of Virginia Tech Fralin Life Sciences Institute. Prior to joining the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1999 Dr. Meng was a Senior Staff Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Meng’s research focuses on emerging and zoonotic viruses of human and veterinary public health significance. He studies how emerging animal viruses infect across species barriers and develops effective vaccines against them. Dr. Meng’s research led to the development of the first U.S. Department of Agriculture-fully licensed vaccine against porcine circovirus type 2. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, an elected fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology Business: and an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
