Due to the sensitivity of this test, all samples are screened first with a sugar floatation, if negative or if low numbers of oocysts are detected, the Modified Wisconsin method will then be performed for quantification. 6 serovars = canicola, ictero, grippo, pomona, hardjo, bratislava (Bison)

Vaginal swabs are $25 each. Porcine nasal swabs are only effective for culturing Pasteurella and Bordetella. Samples with inherently high level of background flora (e.g., fecal samples of any species, swine nasal/oral fluid samples), are not pooled.
